"Firestarter" by The Prodigy, released in 1996, marks a turning point in the pop cultural perception of electronic music. The song broke down the barriers between rave, punk, and rock, bringing the previously subcultural big beat scene firmly into the mainstream. Particularly influential was Keith Flint's presence: his aggressive vocals, anarchic styling, and provocative physicality stood in stark contrast to the prevalent pop presentations of the 1990s. "Firestarter" thus became a canvas for youthful anger, nonconformity, and a general distrust of authority. The track was played not only in clubs but also at rock festivals, on charts, and on music television – a cultural crossover moment. To this day, "Firestarter" is regarded as a symbol of musical boundary-breaking and how electronic music found a rebellious, socially charged voice. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, an Anniversary Edition will be released via XL Recordings on 12" vinyl, featuring remixes and the instrumental version of this legendary track.
