With releases like Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (1986) and Nightfall (1987), the forefathers of epic-doom metal redefined the genre. Their thunderous riffs and dramatic vocals led to an unmistakable style that forever changed the world of metal. The band, led by founding member Leif Edling, finds their way back to their roots with singer Johan Langquist and presents the long-awaited new album, Sweet Evil Sun.

After a total of 18 months of intensive work, CANDLEMASS brings back the full force of their early years with their masterpiece, Sweet Evil Sun, and reflect on themes such as ambition, hope, and failure in their music.

The captivating riff of the first song, 'Wizard Of The Vortex', immediately draws the listener in. In the title track, 'Sweet Evil Sun', thunderous guitar work and a powerful riff meet Johan Langquist's epochal vocals. The dark, Nordic metal anthem, 'Scandinavian Gods', tells legends of Scandinavian mythology through a perfect musical interplay between slow and heavy drums, pounding guitars, and majestic vocals. Jennie-Ann Smith (Avatarium) lends her unique voice to the dark song, 'When Death Sighs'. The atmosphere of the haunting duet is underscored by an impressive guitar solo. Producer Marcus Jidell has perfectly captured the powerful guitar sounds, powerful drums, and epic vocals of the band, creating an outstanding sound experience. The Sweet Evil Sun artwork is by Erik Rovanperä, the creative mind behind CANDLEMASS' visual concept since Psalms for the Dead (2012).
