They build on sampled sounds from the synthesizer and heavy layers of distorted guitars and became a precursor for bands like Nine Inch Nails or Fear Factory.
Their fourth album "The Mind Is A Terrible Thing to Taste" (1989) is the follow-up to the classic "The Land of Rape And Honey".
On it's release the album smashed the Billboard 200 – which of course shows that the fan base of this band is pretty avid.
