Its 9th solo album, Bridges, could not be titled more fittingly. Luke explains, 'I see it as a bridge between my solo music and TOTO music. The fact that Joseph Williams, David Paich, and I have written the majority of the album, and the fact that I have invited many of the old TOTO gang to come and play, brings it all together. It also proves that most of my old buddies and I are still good friends, and I wanted to make a record in the style of 'since TOTO will never record another studio album. This is as close as we can get.' 'Bridges' presents deep roots and branches from TOTO's family tree. Former and current members contribute both to the writing and performance. Joseph Williams has written six songs, David Paich four. Williams participates in all recordings and contributes background vocals, synthesizers, percussion, or keyboards depending on the track, while Paich plays keyboards on five songs. Drummer Simon Phillips contributed to 'Far From Over,' 'Not My Kind Of People,' 'When I See You Again,' and 'Burning Bridges.' Shannon Forrest returned to play on 'Someone,' 'All Forevers Must End,' 'Take My Love,' and 'I'll Never Know.' Both an old friend and former member Lee Sklar, as well as Gov't Mule bassist Jorgen Carlsson, play bass on some tracks, while Luke himself contributes to others. On 'Far From Over,' Trev Lukather plays guitar, bass, background vocals, and synthesizers. The current TOTO keyboardist Steve Maggiora is a co-writer of 'Take My Love' and plays all keys and sings background vocals on this track.
