The post-metal visionaries from Berlin THE OCEAN have announced their plans to drop their tenth album ‘Holocene’ in May. The record follows in the wake of the successful ‘Phanerozoic I: Paleozoic’ (2018, German Album Charts #41) and ‘Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic’ (2020, German Album Charts #9) albums. The Ocean’s mission in the last chapter of their Phanerozoic album series was to amp up the use of electronic elements, but at the same time also crank up the hardness. That being said, the mix should sound somewhat more organic again. ‘Holocene’ is essentially an appendix to the thematically linked records ‘Precambrian’, ‘Phanerozoic I: Paleozoic’ and ‘Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic’ and focuses on the current Holocene age. Guitarist Robin Staps describes content of the work as ‘an album about fear, alienation, the loss of reason and critical thinking, the rise of conspiracy theories and the deconstruction of values in the modern age’. As is usual for The Ocean, it will also be releasing a purely instrumental version of the album at the same time.
